Strain designation: | NDN |
Isolated from: | Intertidal habitat (marine) |
Country: | Germany North Sea, East Frisian island Norderney |
Nagoya Protocol Restrictions: | There are NO known Nagoya Protocol restrictions for this strain. |
History: | <- U. Karsten, Universität Rostock, Germany; {2014} <- L. Prufert-Bebout and F. Garcia-Pichel; NDN {1993} |
Genbank accession numbers: | 16S ribosomal RNA gene, partial sequence: EF654040 16S + 23S partial sequence, intergenic spacer: OR339512 |
Cultivation conditions: | Medium 1677 , alternative medium: DSMZ Medium 1680, 17°C
At the DSMZ, the cyanobacterial cultures are usually cultivated without agitation in 25 cm2 plastic tissue culture flasks with filter screw caps. To subculture Coleofasciculus strains, scrape off the adhering cell material with a plastic Pasteur pipette and crush it by pipetting up and down several times. Alternatively, use a disposable pipette tip to dissect the cell material. Use 2-3 ml of the shredded biomass to inoculate 15 ml of fresh medium in a new tissue culture flask.Light cycle: 16 hours illumination at 300-350 lux and 8 hours dark period. Transfer interval of 12 weeks.

Summary and additional information: | <- U. Karsten, Universität Rostock, Germany; {2014} <- L. Prufert-Bebout and F. Garcia-Pichel; NDN {1993}. Intertidal habitat (marine). Germany, North Sea, East Frisian island Norderney. Sequence accession no. 16S ribosomal RNA gene, partial sequence: EF654040 , 16S + 23S partial sequence, intergenic spacer: OR339512. It cannot be excluded that the strain produces cyanobacterial toxins that can be dangerous to humans and pets. DSM 104251 is a non-axenic culture. Strain-specific literature (27474).
