History: | <- L. J. Stal, Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ); CCY9608 {2015} <- J. Rethmeier, Univ. Bremen; WIS {1994} |
Genbank accession numbers: | 16S + 23S partial sequence, intergenic spacer: EF654049.1 16S + 23S partial sequence, intergenic spacer: OR297752 |
Cultivation conditions: | Medium 1673 , 17°C
At the DSMZ, the cyanobacterial cultures are usually cultivated without agitation in 25 cm2 plastic tissue culture flasks with filter screw caps. To subculture Coleofasciculus strains, scrape off the adhering cell material with a plastic Pasteur pipette and crush it by pipetting up and down several times. Alternatively, use a disposable pipette tip to dissect the cell material. Use 2-3 ml of the shredded biomass to inoculate 15 ml of fresh medium in a new tissue culture flask. Light cycle: 16 hours illumination at 300 lux and 8 hours dark period. Transfer interval of 12 weeks.

Summary and additional information: | <- L. J. Stal, Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ); CCY9608 {2015} <- J. Rethmeier, Univ. Bremen; WIS {1994}. Sediment. Germany, Baltic Sea, Wismarer Bay, Poel. Taxonomy/description (27474). Sequence accession no. 16S + 23S partial sequence, intergenic spacer: EF654049.1, 16S + 23S partial sequence, intergenic spacer: OR297752. Phototrophic. It cannot be excluded that the strain produces cyanobacterial toxins that can be dangerous to humans and pets. DSM 101416 is a non-axenic culture. (Medium 1673, incubation time: more than 4 weeks, 17°C).
