| Genbank accession numbers: | 16S ribosomal RNA gene, partial sequence: MN266256.1 |
| Cultivation conditions: | Medium 1593 , 17°C
At the DSMZ, cyanobacterial cultures are usually cultivated without agitation in 25 cm² plastic tissue culture flasks with filter screw caps. To subculture DSM 109260, scrape off the adhering cell material with a plastic Pasteur pipette, then crush it by pipetting up and down several times. Use 1–2 ml of the shredded biomass to inoculate 15 ml of fresh medium in a new tissue culture flask. The light cycle is 16 hours of illumination at 800 lux and an 8-hour dark period. The transfer interval is 8 weeks.

Summary and additional information: | <- P. Jung, University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern, Campus Pirmasens; PJ S09 {2017}. Until 2025 preserved as Scytonema hyalinum. Hypolithic biofilm on quartz, ridge. Chile, Atacama Desert; Pan de Azur National Park. Taxonomy/description (41435, 41474, 41475). Sequence accession no. 16S ribosomal RNA gene, partial sequence: MN266256.1. Phototrophic. It cannot be excluded that the strain produces cyanobacterial toxins that can be dangerous to humans and pets. DSM 109260 is a non-axenic culture. (Medium 1593, incubation time: more than 14 days, 17°C). At the DSMZ, cyanobacterial cultures are usually cultivated without agitation in 25 cm² plastic tissue culture flasks with filter screw caps.
