DSM 119157 is cultivated in 25 cm² plastic tissue culture flasks with filter screw caps, each routinely containing 20 ml of culture. To establish a fresh culture, fill a 25 cm² flask with 10 ml of DSM 1723a medium and inoculate with 10 ml of grown DSM 119157 culture. Each culture is aseptically supplemented with a sterilised wheat grain (autoclaved at 121 °C for 20 minutes) to provide a carbon source for environmental bacteria from the sampling site. The transfer interval is 2-3 weeks.
