At the DSMZ the cyanobacterial cultures are usually cultivated in 25 cm2 plastic tissue culture flasks with filter screw caps, which are routinely filled with 20 ml of fresh medium each. Shake the old culture flask gently to disperse the cyanobacteria and transfer a volume of about 2-3 ml from the old flask into the new one. Light cycle: 16 hours illumination at 1500 lux and 8 hours dark period, transfer interval of 3 weeks.
